Lapland Lake Cross Country Ski Center

Reviewed By Cherie M - New Paltz, New York

My husband and I had visited Lapland Lake about 10 years ago for a day visit for cross country skiing (we were dating at the time). We found them "by accident" - we had wanted to take a day trip together for cross country skiing and found them via Google. On that day, we saw the cabins and just loved the setting and promised each other we would return to stay in the cabins and visit this wonderful and peaceful resort again.
After all these years, my husband told me he needed to take a vacation (he works very hard) and I remembered our promise so we booked Suksi Tupa for a couple of nights and we are so glad we did! The cabin was wonderful and Kathy and Paul were so helpful and patient with all our questions. The other employees were also helpful and friendly (I do have to mention Phil -- what a sweetheart!).
On our way to Lapland Lake, we phoned ahead and ordered a couple of meals from their catered Tupa dinner service and I am so glad we did. Very generous and delicious portions (we had enough for two meals) and easy to heat up in the microwave. I have to mention that the beds were very comfortable and the sheets and towels smelled so nice.
Unfortunately (?) - the weather was on the warm side so there were not many trails open for skiing but definitely enough to fill our time. Even with all the cabins around us being filled, this place was so quiet - it was just what my husband needed.
We will be back - I hope it won't be such a long wait this time.
Thanks again, Kathy and Paul.

Moffitt Beach

Reviewed By slackpacker - nj

Moffitt Beach State Park Campground was awful. Moffitt Beach State Park Campground was wonderful. How can that be?

First evening, Saturday September 5th 2015. Generators yammering like the hammers of hell, or was it white trash heaven, take your pick. Fortunately the park requires the micro power plants to shut down at 7:00 pm, which is sort of adhered to. Best thing about that is, once the racket from the generators died down, we were free to hear the dogs at all the surrounding sites barking and yammering away. That, and the card game across the road with the limited four-letter vocabulary. Moffitt Beach? More like Jersey Shore.

Second evening, Sunday September 6, 2015. Had been out hiking all day, returned to find most of the drunks, generators, and canine campers had vanished. Peace, solitude, quiet was the order of the evening. Moffitt Beach was wonderful on this night.

So when you have one night score excellent, and another score terrible, I suppose the average is...average.

I'd go back again, midweek, after the summer season.

We spent the evening listening to Boomer play at the restaurant. The food was very good, the staff was attentive, and the band was great! The sun setting on the water was gorgeous. It was a memorable evening. If I lived nearby, I would come back again.

Charlie Johns Store

Not many full-service grocery stores in the southern and mid Adirondacks (Tupper Lake and North Creek do have them). Charlie Johns has everything you need at fair prices. Good deli. Good beer selection and it has it's own refrigerated room. Good bakery products. Also has general campground supplies. Service is always pleasant.
