Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park

A preserved 1874 Taoist temple.

Reviewed By John B - Westwood, Massachusetts

Visited here with my family in July 2016. This is a very interesting historic site that is well worth the time (an hour or so) to tour. The Joss House is a Chinese Temple that was built by the local miners during the gold rush. Tours are available for a small fee. The guide is SUPERB - she goes out of her way to explain both the culture and the history of the site. There is also a small gift shop and restrooms on the site. Free parking.

Jake Jackson Museum

We totally enjoyed our visit to the museum. It covers historical aspects of the town, the Chinese miners, native Americans, gold mining. Two old jail cells are in the basements. Adjacent to the museum are several buildings with a stage coach and other old conveyances, a blacksmith shop, and a gold flume. We highly recommend the museum.

This is one of the most beautiful highways in the West. It has it all--lovely vistas, lakes, waterfalls and colorful towns. Besides generally beautiful scenery, some attractions heading west from Alturas Ca include: Burney Falls, Lake Shasta and Lake Shasta Caverns. Shasta State Historical Park (old time gold rush buildings--very cool), Jackson Museum, and the Weaverville Joss House. And don't forget the Bigfoot Museum in Willow Creek. Weaverville is a sweet town and the Weaverville Hotel provides comfortable old time lodging. If you have the time this highway merits a detour.

Highland Art Center

Reviewed By Nordyclan - California

The Highland Art Center is a lovely little treasure tucked in the heart of town. The gallery is well laid out in such a quaint, historic house. We enjoyed the many different types of art/media featured, from so many local artists. The grounds of the Highland are lovely as well with the flowers, the stone bridge and the picnic tables. We would highly recommend this place to friends and family!

The Course CA

What an adventure!
There are two levels to this course. One at about 12 feet & the other at perhaps 35 feet high, which is higher than it sounds or looks when you get up there!
The staff are wonderful. Nothing is forced, but we were guided through with encouragement & what they referred to as 'challenge by choice'. We were given an objective, then worked together to make it happen.
We went through this as a work team & still laugh about some of the experiences which happened up there which really did bring us together as a tighter group of work colleagues.
Highly recommended!

Old Town Station

Reviewed By Stephen E - Mount Olive, North Carolina

It was a hot day in Weaverville when we made out visit, so we went to Old Town Station for a Milkshake, a Root Beer Float and a cone of soft-serve. All were delicious and the air conditioning was working well. The store has different tourist items for sale, but what surprised me the most was the video rental store. Besides rentals for new movies, the store had a large collection of VCR tapes and older video games, something that I had not seen in 10-15 years. The store also sells reasonably priced chicken dinners.
