Skischule Karl Maier

My wife and I booked ski lessons with the Karl Maier Ski School. My wife was a beginner taught by Eoin (Irish guy). She says the he was brilliant. Having had a bad experience elsewhere with skiing lessons she was initially unsure about ski again. Eoin was very patient and explained things fully in different ways so that she understood and helped her when she got it wrong. He helped her on and off the lifts until she got the had of it as this was her big fear from previous experiences. By the end of the lesson she was really happy with what she had learnt and could happily use the lifts and ski down the slopes within falling. A big big thank you to Eoin.
I was in an intermediate class with Giselle. Again she was very good, explaining everything very well in simple terms. She was also able to offer advice about the resort and slopes and you could have a laugh while learning. I learnt so much and my skiing has really improved. Big thanks to Giselle.
Both a credit to the Karl Maier Ski School.
We had ski hire from there also, a good service and no issues.
They run an “awards night” at the end of the week. A great night out, lots of fun and worth going to.

X-Fun Rauris Og

Reviewed By Alice C - California

We visited Rauris in July last year and our local host recommended we get in contact with X-fun Rauris as they provide a variety of different outdoor activities perfect for families and young children.
We opted for the 'Adventure program' which included three activities; Bockerl, downhill scooter and climbing garden.
The Bockerl, a small skateboard like thing with three small wheels running down the middle, was exhilarating. It was the first time any of us had experienced anything like it, a totally new and unique experience. The backdrop wasn't too bad either- stunning mountain valley views.
Helpful tip: make sure to take old shoes for this activity as the soles of your shoes will be put to the test.
The downhill scooter tour took place up the mountain. We all rode a separate gondola up the mountain and were responsible for our individual scooters. The tour itself ran from the top gondola station to the bottom of the mountain at Kreuzboden side. A short scoot back at the end saw us back to where we started. Again, adrenaline was pumping as we navigated the mountain paths and dodged the grazing cows. Our kids loved it!
Lastly was the climbing garden which incorporated 3 elements; the parkour where you were suspended in the trees having to navigate your way around the obstacles; a huge swing wherein we all had to work together as a family to hoist one member into the air before they let go and swung back to the ground; and a wooden climbing pole that you free feel from after having climbed to the top. A great experience for the whole family and a personal favourite of mine.
All the activities lasted between 1.5- 2hours and were with a guide. The guides themselves are all really friendly and ready to help out and share their stories and local knowledge.
We definitely want to visit again and try the remaining activities they have to offer. Thanks for a great experience guys!!

Park your car where the barrier to Karalm stops you going any further
It's a steady hike until the last 4/500m and then your calves will get a real work out
There are two routes up, one via Kramalm (which was sadly closed when we went up), the other approaches from the opposite side.
This was the one I did. It does have a section where the ridge joins the summit which requires steady nerves and strong hands holding steel ropes. Not very long, enough to keep the heart beating.
The loop is about 14 miles, so a big day's walk.
