About 60 cars mostly collected by a local couple, all but 2 of which run, and the staff will happily tell you that and anything else you want to know. There are good Australian cars as well as foreign ones and the mannequins in period clothing just add to the wackiness. $14 may be a bit steep but it's the biggest thing in Forbes.

Firstly, there are the very friendly and knowledgable volunteer staff here. Secondly, it is housed in a very fine heritage building. Thirdly, make sure you watch the short film on the bushranger Ben Hall. Last but not least there are oodles of handmade art and craft to purchase as well as baked goods.

A very well constructed bronze cast sculpture. Great setting in the park where once a historic hotel stood (burnt down), and opposite the imposing Post Office and just around the corner from the beautifully restored Town Hall (with fascinating portable pipe organ).

This is the place to go to find out about the district and in particular about Ben Hall. the video presentation is very well done and there are a number of very interesting exhibits including a time line for the major events involving the Hall gang. If you are fortunate enough to be there when Liz is in attendance have a chat as she has a wealth of additional information about the exhibits.

When in Forbes you should visit the cemetery and find the grave of the (in) famous local son, Ben Hall. Arguments persist until today about how the bushranger Ben was shot back in 1865 - it is a fascinating story that you can follow up at the local museum in Cross St.

This swamp is soon to be renamed as a wetland which will probably make it more attractive to visitors and is more accurate anyway. Just a few kilometres from town it has an excellent range of bird life busily doing their stuff for the observer. The hide is easily accessible and gives a good outlook. The swamp is topped up by recycled water from town which will keep it in good shape even in droughts. Turtles were sunning themselves on logs and a heron gave us a great view of its feeding habits right in front of the hide. A very enjoyable visit.
