My first impression as I drove up was hesitant because of the location but as soon as I walked in the door I changed my mind! I loved the decor and the selection of beer! The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. They even have beer to go in cans. It was a little pricey but a nice feature. I would definitely recommend Modicum and will definitely stop in the next time I am in town!

A great place to find unique indoor & outdoor decorating items. If you are looking for antiques and collectibles, with memories of times past, you will find them at The Shed in Altoona! We stopped here while traveling to check out the new place. We arrived just as it opened. The owner's daughter was bartending; the owner was working in the brew area. There was very little interaction even though we were the only customers. The beer, however, was excellent, so we stayed for another. The owner finally came over and sat at the bar. I asked him a question, and from then on, he was very chatty and friendly. We learned a lot about his operation and his beer. As the afternoon went on, more people came, and by the time we left it was comfortably full. The beer deserves accolades. We had the Dapper -- a nice lightly smoked Porter, and the Auld Kilt -- quite possibly the best Scotch Ale I've had. Nicely appointed tap room with free popcorn and clean bathrooms. Definitely worth your time to check out.
