Stopped off here on our way to Perth and what a vibrant place it is. It was beautifully clean and tidy and full of people enjoying themselves. Plenty of cafes and restaurants, quirky colourfull seating and a lovely park where children played and others picniced.

Rockingham Beach

Reviewed By cyndilou

So recently visited one of my fave spots in Perth... Rockingham Beach. It's a must for anyone visiting the Rockingham area. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and loved the vibrant hub of activity that was going on. Walking along the esplanade, the beautiful lush lawns and shady trees in the parkland alongside the beach were full of familys picnicking and having a good time. As I strolled along the path between the park and the beach, an elderly gentleman was sitting on a chair playing the harmonica. He was not busking as he didn't have anything out to collect money, he was simply playing for the sheer joy of it. I stopped and listened to his joyful music for a while before continuing down the pathway. Hey, there are some really cool historical facts imprinted in the path, and well worth a read if you have time! Anyway, down towards the pier are a whole heap of very cool cafes and restaurants right on the beachfront. I've tried them all, and they are all fantastic. The stand out everytime though is the customer service in Rockingham...it is absolutely brilliant. The locals are all super friendly and helpful. The beach at Rockingham is beautiful and clean - I believe a truck comes along at the crack of dawn and sweeps the beach, keeping it looking just glorious. Beside the pier, and right in front of the cafes, you will find lots of umbrellas and green areas with sun lounges and decks to sit and relax. Really, Rockingham has thought of everything here! So, if you're visiting Perth, please do pop down South and visit the Rockingham area... there are so many different beaches and you'll find the locals welcome you with open arms. I loved it so much, I'm considering moving there!

Penguin Island

Located in the spectacular Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, just 45 minutes south of Perth is Penguin Island- a beautiful, unspoilt nature reserve home to WA's largest colony of little penguin as well as dolphins, sea lions, stingrays, pelicans, ospreys and more. Visitors can see the penguins being fed by rangers at the Discovery Centre. It's also fantastic for swimming, snorkelling, having a picnic or just enjoying some of the best coastal scenery in Perth. Rockingham Wild Encounters operate an hourly ferry service to Penguin Island (it's only a 5 minute ride), glass bottom boat cruises of Shoalwater Bay and adventure style cruises to watch the local dolphins and explore more of the marine park. Sea Kayak Tours and Kite boarding Lessons are also available.

My family have been visiting here, it’s a jewel in the crown of Perth and so few people recognise it. Thoroughly recommend a day trip to see wild and housed penguins, brilliant snorkelling from the shore and a wonderful island walk. A great example of the government positively protecting an island. Oh and my bro was the last person to get married on it too, now 10-years back.
