Baxter State Park

This park features Mount Katahdin, the largest mountain in Maine, and where you might also catch sight of a moose.

I stayed at Abol two nights. The place was beautiful. It is true. No electricity. No running water. But the outhouse was very clean. The tent site was impeccable. Even freshly raked. The park ranger was available and kind. Easy access to fire wood. Most of all, unbeatable solitude and access to nature. The campground is literally at the foot of the abol ascent to baxter peak on mt katahdin which helped with our early ascent.
