Campanile di San Nicolo

Lecco's clock tower is the second highest tower in Italy and one of the highest in Europe. Now it's possible to visit it, in some days and only with reservation, thanks to the project that aims to revalue this monument. It will be a unique experience that will lead from the full of history basement of the tower up to the terrace on top of it from where you can admire a full 360 view of the city, the lake and its mountains.

We didn't climb this impressive tower, but we spent 3 days in this beautiful city. It makes a very good base for visiting Lake Como. We loved Lecco with it's lake promenade, gorgeous views, nice streets and buildings... This is a city where I would love to live.

Piani D'Erna

Visited here as we love hiking. The bus took us straight from central Lecco to the cable car, a quick journey up to the most amazing views of Lecco and Lake Como. The signposts for hikes weren’t the best but we did find our way to a small hike which took us a couple of hours to complete. The restaurant at the top was full so we waited and took the cable car to the restaurant at the bottom and had a very welcomed beer with a great sandwich. Simple and tasty! Would definitely recommend this!

Pista Ciclabie sull'Adda

Basilica San Nicolo

Reviewed By PaulB0 - Maastricht, The Netherlands

The Basilica dedicated to San Nicolò is located just north of the historical center of Lecco and includes the adjacent 96 meter-high bell tower. The Cathedral dates back to the 7th century, when a previous version of the current building was constructed on top of the remains of an ancient Roman fortification. In the 12th century the building was completely rebuilt in Romanesque style, on a three-nave plan, at the end of the 16th century under some restoration work involving the façade, the stairs and the bell tower. The neoclassical façade was made in the 18th cenuty, while various restorationa and renovations gave the cathedral its current appearance. The interior is well worth a visit and worth climbing every single step. The curved stucco ceiling with frescoes is awesome, so is the dome. Admission is free, although a (small) donation will always be appreciated.
