Top 6 Sights & Landmarks in Manhattan, New York (NY)

April 26, 2022 Natalie Tallman

Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

42nd Street

42nd street is the heart of midtown and the street that I take all out-of-towners to. This is home to theaters, museums, and all the good (and the bad) that NYC has to offer. It is ridiculously crowded and bright, but that's exactly what a tourist wants to experience, at least during their first visit to the city. It is also home to some of the most famous NYC buildings including the Chrysler Building, Grand Central Terminal, New York Public Library, Port Authority Bus Terminal and all the way on the east side, the UN.

The Oculus

Big and beautiful. It was about time New York got something by Santiago Calatrava. The Oculus is very well designed and integrated into the area, connecting with both transportation venues (the PATH station and the Fulton Center) and while there are the usual standard high end shops for visitors who cannot live without one of them in every city they visit, the structure itself is worth it.

The High Line Park

This elevated park, built along an abandoned railroad, has become almost too popular, so much so that it has become congested on a pretty day. Stretches through some cool neighborhoods and it's become a force of gentrification as it generates so much foot traffic. Love walking along side tall buildings above the street level.

George M. Cohan Statue

Reviewed By bob2bkk - Bangkok, Thailand

I don't think Broadway would be what it is today if it wasn't for George M. Cohan. His stature is in Duffy Square close to his wonderful workshop, Broadway. He was a prolific songwriter and produced and directed numerous Broadway plays back in the early 1900's. Most of his songs are still enjoyed today. He teamed up with some of the most popular actors, producers, singers and actors of the time. He was a true legend and a true American. (Just listen to some of his compositions)
