This is just a short walk up from Avellanas Beach and is a wonderful place to get a burger, fish sandwich and a beer. The owner/ chef was delightful and everything was prepared from scratch, so enjoy the Caribbean time and sip a beer or soda while you wait for your meal. It is basic with picnic style tables, some stools at the bar, but in the midst of the gently swaying trees and relaxing atmosphere. You will not go wrong making this a stop on your trip.

Have a tasty tropical drink (with or without alcohol) or a leisurely lunch and enjoy the company of resident hotel cats Cala and Luna. Have your camera ready because more likely than not howler monkeys will visit the trees overhead before the afternoon is over.

Had we been a little more vigilant, our experience would have been all right. I probably would have given this place 5 stars. However......we arrived about 3:00 in the afternoon and had a couple of margueritas. We ordered some food (delicious) and then enjoyed three hours listening to a great band; later visiting with one of the members and his lovely wife. All was well. The service was quite slow sometimes...but it was busy and we had lots of time. I noticed the guy at the next table, who had a Happy Hour drink, taking his drink back and complaining about something...he returned, placed his barely tasted drink (along with his wife's drink) on the table and leaving. We had ordered another drink and my husband and I noticed the taste was off. He assumed we needed more mix, but they added water instead. It was different all right. I stood up to pay and fell over by the till! My debit card was not accepted ad I didn't have a credit card with me, so the manager gave me a ride to our condo and back, so I could pay what we owed. I left my husband behind, just sitting there, for collateral, ha, ha.Upon my return...maybe 10 minutes later, I paid what was owing and then asked where my husband was. The told me that he had gone home. Well, I then left to walk home and fell on the broken pavement, got lost and fell on the gravel road on the way to our place. Keep in mind, I only had seven drinks over the course of seven hours.I finally took a taxi to our place and there was my husband. The people working at the bar had told him I was downtown waiting for him, so he had gone to look for me and got lost, too.At no time did we see our drinks being prepared, which is really dumb on our part, but I know the last drink had been tampered with. The staff was super neglectful in NOT caring about their customers.A long story, I know, but a true one. I was so bruised and sore that it took a week for my cut up knee and bruises to heal. The moral? Always make sure you can see your drinks being made. Keep an eye on your drinks always, and carry a credit card. I still have my receipt as proof. This review is troubling to say the least on several levels. First, I hope you have healed from your fall in a ditch on your walk back to your condo. We kindly accept your critique of slow service and anything to do with what you feel is inferior quality (you said our food was delicious), as this type criticism is a useful tool for us which helps us improve. Our Costa Rican employees and management work very hard to ensure that all guests have a wonderful time and that they do their best to service your needs. Our employees depend on their job and would never sacrifice their positions or harm our business or guests by tampering with a drink. This allegation is ludicrous and upsetting and did not happen. Your issue with the bill is at the crux of this complaint. You and your husband arrived and opened a tab at 3:11pm. You both drank and ate at our establishment until 8:59pm (5 hours and 48 minutes) and consumed 12 drinks (4 before happy hour and 8 during happy hour) consisting of Margaritas and Mojitos and ate only a small amount of food. During this time there was no complaint from you until the bill was presented. The total bill was $94.99. You believed the bill was too high and to add to the problem your credit card was declined. As a courtesy the manager gave you a ride to your condo so you could get more cash, but before you arrived you had him stop his car where you used profanity to explain that you would not pay the total and upon exiting his car you used a profane middle finger to emphasize your resolve not to pay. You did not return with the manager you returned on your own. When the manager returned he found that your husband was not at the restaurant and that he left to walk to the condo. You subsequently paid the full amount in cash. The amount of drinks consumed (12), some of which were happy hour 24-ounce drinks (doubles) indicates an abundance of alcohol consumed. I will be reviewing our policy concerning guests over consumption of alcohol by better monitoring consumption and additionally requiring wait staff to communicate frequently with guests so they may have an idea what the status of their tab total is as well as their level of intoxication. If you would like to further discuss this issue we are available at your convenience at +506-2653-1238 Thank you for your review and again we hope you feel better from your fall on the street.

Although we were staying at The Capitan Suizo we wanted to take the opportunity to eat in the local restaurants. We had walked along the beach into the town and found that some of the ones we had researched and were recommended on TripAdvisor were on the side of the main road which is unpaved and extremely dusty so we opted to walk a little way out of town and onto a side road where La Cave Langosta is situated. We were in Tamarindo over the weekend and booking was recommended for a Saturday night, this was arranged by the friendly and helpful receptionist at the hotel. We arrived and were greeted warmly and given a lovely table under a fan which was very welcome as although most of the restaurant is open air it was a very warm evening. A jug of water menus arrived with a board of specials, no wine list? We were impressed with choices, I ordered a house salad the steak tartre, husband lobster crème soup and pork medallions in Dijon mustard sauce. Wine,"just come with me", Wine is kept on an enormous "cave" within the restaurant, no listings, the price of the wine is on a label on the top of the bottle! Our meal was superb, the best steak tartre I've had apart from our favourite restaurant in Sangatte in France. The owner who is a real French gentleman introduced himself and asked if we had enjoyed our meal, did we enjoy it, yes , so much can we book for tomorrow night please? Bien sure was the reply. Sunday evening were opted to just a main course, my lamb skewers were tender, pink and herby, husbands steak with pepper sauce(his all time favourite) bought a smile of pure delight with each mouthful. Its a pity the La Cave is closed on a Monday as we may well have been tempted to go again. It was well worth the short walk to La Cave, thankyou for the wonderful food an memories.
