However people have heard of it and they come visit and I think if you do you should understand the really intersesting, and unique to california, history. History is so important to all of us and I believe it behooves us all to know what transpired before our visit that makes any place worth visiting!

Other locations in: Lahaina, HI | Wailea, HI | Kohala Coast, HI History Lahaina Galleries was established in 1976 by Jim & Nancy Killett, who never meant to be art dealers whom now run Hawaii's largest art gallery and most well known in America. There are 5 locations: Maui (Wailea & Lahaina), Newport Beach, CA, Mauna Lani, HI and Palm Beach, FL Meet the Business Owners Raised in small towns in Arkansas, Jim & Nancy Killett met in college and married right after graduation. With their dual physical ed degrees-Jim coached football, Nancy gymnastics-they taught school in New Mexico, Florida, Okinawa, and Germany in addition to Jim's four years of Marine Corps service. The Killetts never dreamed of becoming art impresarios. While teaching in damp Germany, Jim watched "Hawaii 5-O" once a week. As the show brought Hawaii into their home in living color, "We decided to move to Maui." The Killetts quit their jobs, sold their possessions, took out their retirement money and said goodbye to friends and family. Two months later they wound up on the doorstep of a real-estate office in Lahaina, ready to plunk down their life savings for just about any business they could buy. When the ice cream parlor they wanted to buy proved unavailable, Jim & Nancy bought into the 1,500-sq. ft gallery selling $400 paintings and puka shell necklaces. And the rest is history!
