De Plakker

As per the previous poster, a seven strong family group visited De Plakker to celebrate my wife's birthday. Looks like I chose well. The whole experience from start to finish was superb. Great choice of beers, well presented and cooked food, and perfect service from the hosts. Cannot fault it, though by UK standards (and due to the pathetic value of the £ these days,) you would not call it a cheap option !

Brasserie Het Kompas

Reviewed By KatrienS955

I had the suggestion of the day for lunch, which was a typical dish (vispannetje), albeit with french fries for I guess the tourists. Before there were some olives as well as pumkin soup and bread. The soup was ok, but lacked flavour. The same can be said for the main course, in which the little shrimp were not freshly peeled, and the whole was rather watery. The service was attentive and friendly, and the setting is nice. Plus point is that it was open, even in November. A negative point for small eaters is that you cannot order just a starter. You really think 19 euro’s is too much for what you got?For the price you payed; 19€; you got a pumpkin-carrot soup with fresh baked bread and butter, a portion of olives with garlic, a fisherman’s plate with steamed saumon, steamed cod, mussels and FRESHLY PEELED shrimps, a fish "waterzooi" sauce and gratinated with parmesan cheese, french fries “à volonté” and mayonaise!!! But you still think 19 euro’s is much too expensive for this??? This is so FUNNY!!!! You really make us laugh :-) :-) !!! I do not know what you are used to pay for soup, bread, olives and a fisherman's plate!!!The “waterzooi”-sauce, you call it “watery”… ???????And all our starters can be ordered for main course …!!!!! Do not lie!!!So please be correct en fair when you put something on Tripadvisor! Certainly when you only pay 19 euro’s for staying in a restaurant!

Biere sur Mer

Biere-sur-mer is a beautiful establishment with a generous beer menu. The tapas they offer are lovely - try the Veurnse pate! We had the stoofvlees which was very nice and served with fries and mustard, and the steak tartare which is also very good. The food was beautifully served and the atmosphere of the place is very warm and cosy. A good place for a dinner for two, as well as a family outing. They also have a lovely terrace overlooking the sea.

Restaurant Lowie

A delightful meal with exceptional starters and and excellent main. Attention to detail is high on the agenda at this lovely restaurant overlooking the town square. Helpful staff who made a couple of English visitors very much at home with a detailed explanation of the menu, perhaps this is why we thought the food so good as it was what we expected. Either way it was cooked to perfection and tases to to remember for all of the right reasons. Wine by the glass was very reasonable and the Pomerol fantastic.c value.Sadly no room for a dessert but if they are as half as good as the food we did eat we missed a treat.

5 Voor Twaalf

Last W.E. we invite our family to have an anniversary meal, because 2 of our eldest daughters and ourselves with a mariage jubilee should celebrate together. Our 3 tiny granddaughters were the firsts served, and that was a very good point in service. So the mama's could feed them and for the rest of our meal they all were lucky and quiet, not disturbing other diners. Two of us choose codfish, one choose steak, and two other adults choose Côte à l'Os 3 sauces. All meat dishes are acompagned with excellent handmade belgian fries, and the 2 fish dishes and the 2 eldest granddaughters had potatoe puree. We have eaten it all, and took dessert at home. It's just a walk away from home. We paid 200 euros, and that is very fair. We return regulary and owners and staff are very good to the point. Even they knew in advance the childrens ages, and they had dressed the table with these elements of age. Sublime !

Very nice place to relax when you have walked in the dunes and on the beach on a windy day in winter. We visited in mid-January when temperatures were around 5 degrees C.
