Stopped by for a cappuccino and to check my email. This is still one of my favorite cafes in Portsmouth -- great coffee and baked goods, good selection of wine, craft beer, and small plates, and wonderful ambiance in the historic Custom House, with architectural details still intact and huge windows overlooking Pleasant and State Streets. Lots of wooden tables and chairs (even couches and armchairs), an outside patio, and a large selection of books that are a browser's dream. Great t-shirt, too! They also have live music and readings. This is TRULY a downtown gem.

We ordered crepes. They were delicious, cooked perfectly and were packed with fresh fillings. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very clean (including the restrooms). There was a great view of the runways and they have a rotating overhead conveyor that runs the length of the dining area holding models of aircraft .This will be our place of choice for breakfast or lunch when we are in the area.

Rye Beach Market

We were going on the whale watching tour and decided to get some supplies and a sandwich for the trip. The first place we came across was Rye Beach Market and they had a kitchen so we decided to order something to eat. The staff reminded me of some of the places in Northern California, way too laid back. We thought we would have plenty of time but the service was so slow that we had to ask them to hurry because we were headed back to the boat. Food not bad but service was horrible.

Seacoast Soups

Reviewed By 43mariel

My husband and I discovered this small soup restaurant last year while on vacation. We couldn't believe the taste and quality of the soups offered that day. Two weeks ago, we were camping in the area and ate there twice. There are usually 4-5 fresh soup containers. They have small cups that you can try each soup before you choose the one you want to either eat there, or, take with you. We both chose their beef stew. I make my own beef stew, my family recipe, and usually will not buy it in a restaurant. I couldn't believe the taste of that stew. My husband usually wouldn't choose a beef stew over a broth soup, but he tasted it, and bought it. We each had a fresh wrap with the stew. We bought a container to go, as well as the chicken noodle, and an incredible Thai soup that was so tasty. Bowls are $6.00 and so worth it. It cost us $50. for 3 ribs of fresh soup, and the stew we ate there. We made a second visit 2 days later. They've won "best soup" awards 3 years in a row. They have dairy & gluten free soups as well. You get free crackers and a fresh bread roll with your purchase. They are open Monday - Friday 11:00 - 6:00, and 11:00 - on Sat, closed on Sunday. You will pleasantly surprised - high quality, awesome variety, the staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Colby's Breakfast & Lunch

Colby's is a very small restaurant but the offerings are enormous! We ordered a Reuban Omelette and Eggs Benedict. Both were generous portions! I was really intrigued by the cinnamon swirl french toast offered on the menu so I ordered one slice. It was HUGE! The best french toast I have ever had! We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and can understand why there is always a wait for a table. But the wait is so worth it.
