Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

I was in town for one night for business, and although I should have gotten rest for my meeting the following day, I decided on a last-minute whim to go have some drinks and see some comedy. I had heard a lot of good things about The Stand from listening to podcasts with various NYC comedians. The Stand completely delivered in all respects. I happened to be in town on a Monday night - unfortunately, no LoS taping that night, but there was a free show hosted by Kerryn Feehan and Aaron Berg that night. Even though it was the free Monday show, I knew most of the lineup and there were a couple of surprises in the mix. Every comic was funny - I had a great time. Service at the bar was also friendly and prompt. One tip - lacking creativity, I ordered a basic drink where the name is in the format of "[mixer] and [drink]." I immediately got the sense that the bartenders were of the higher-skilled variety, such that my order seemed off putting to them (probably correctly - again, lack of thought and creativity on my part). I would recommend not doing what I did, but rather engaging the bartenders and letting them use their skills. Although the menu looks really good, I did not have any food this time. Hopefully my next trip will be less whim-based and I can actually plan out a dinner and show in advance.
