Contrary to popular belief, the city's formation in Nagaland is separate from that of Assam. In the Middle Ages, it was the capital of the Dimasa Kachari Kingdom. In the heart of the town there is an old relic of the Kachari Kingdom which speaks about the once prosperous era. It is located at 25°54′45″N 93°44′30″E / 25.91250°N 93.74167°E / 25.91250; 93.74167 and is bounded by Kohima district on the south and east, Karbi Anglong district of Assam (The Lalung - Tiwa Hills) on the west, the Karbi Anglong and stretch of Golaghat District of Assam, in the west and the north. The name Dimapur is derived from the Dimasa language]; 'Di" means "water", "ma" means "large" and "pur" (sanskritised word) means "city", translating to "Big-river-city", associated with the meaning of "Kachari" which is "people of the river valley" and after the river which flows through it (Dhansari). It is also the gateway to Nagaland and its only railhead. The city also has the only functional airport in the state.

This place is perfect for a dinner out for family with kids on weekends or occassions..the 3 course buffet was delicious and wholesome and well presented ..the salads and desserts have a variety of choice and the kulfi nation is a must try also the juice section has interesting concoctions (non alcoholic)..very reasonable pricing.. value for money and they dont allow tipping as well...the staff are kids friendly which is a plus point..the staff even did a birthday performance which i think was really cool..it was some other customers birthday tho but it was entertaining for everyone present there especially the kids..This place is highly recommended for family outings and for foodies.

May be we went on a bad day, but except the gift shop which has a most desolate look and unimaginative products, and the restaurant Bambusa, the entire Bamboo Development activity seemed shut- and that included even the museum.As to the restaurant Bambusa, the less said the better. Although it has a distinctive decore and character, their toilets are entirely avoidable. And they did not even serve a cup of tea or coffee at around 11.30 in the forenoon.You miss nothing if you donât go there

As I was visiting Dimapur to attend a friends marriage I decided to try its best restaurant. I checked Tripadvisor and this restaurant is listed number one and being a big fan of Thai cuisine I opted for this place. I visited this place along with four other friends.I ordered Chicken Pad Thai [Rs.350], Pork Satay [Rs.200], Thai Fried Rice (prawn) [Rs.450], Pork Penang Curry [Rs.400], Steamed Rice [Rs.50 each],Chicken Massaman Curry [Rs.300] and a Water bottle [Rs.25]. A Mocktail and crackers were served free with some dish. I loved its Chicken Massaman Curry, it was delicious.The decor was good and the service was also Ok. I think the pricing was a bit on the higher side. It is located on the 4 th floor of the CBZZ complex near the Green park junction.
