Alan Cottrill Sculpture Studio & Gallery

Reviewed By Roving825244

This was the highlight of our trip to the Zanesville area. The sculptures were incredible, but the stories behind them brought them to life. It was an honor to meet Allan and hear about his work/life. And the cat was adorable too!

The gallery is filled with my artwork, some of my student's work, great original art jewelry and form time to time other interesting items of art. Don't hesitate to stop by or make an appointment. I'm there to answer questions and let you see what I'm working on at the time. Look forward to seeing you.

Seilers' Studio and Gallery

Seilers' Studio and Gallery is home to the artwork of Michael and Kathleen Seiler painter and poet respectively. Unusual contemporary works in asphalt and alkyds coupled with poetry creates a beautiful array of museum quality works. Artwork is both in the process of being made as well as being displayed. These works were created in a traditional manner, using wood stretchers with heavly gessoed canvas, however that is where traditional ends. I have chosen asphalt because asphalt’s nature is labile, and has the potential for unexpected change. So life, ever changing, brings both good and ill. Asphalt, smooth and shiny, also reflects the colors of its surroundings. We likewise, in our personal journey, reflect the “colors” of our experiences. The alkyds lend some chemical changes and instability to the work. On occasion, color is added to signify some emotional element, demonstrating the very nature of redemption in a particular situation.

We visited this lovely gallery in early August. Mike Seiler's artwork is very interesting, as is his use of materials. I loved reading the poems beside each painting (written by Kathy Seiler). I had the priviledge of sitting in gallery on a quiet afternoon and experienced a wonderful sense of peace and grace. The vision that Mike and Kathy have for a growing artist's colony in this part of Zanesville is very intriguing. Check out their Artist's Abbey Bed and Breakfast for a comfortable and inviting place to stay. Just the chance to talk with this delightful couple is worth the visit.
