The first week of August is beautiful at Chaparral Prairie. An amazing display of blazing star and an abundance of pollinators drawn to the blazing star. Wide mowed paths provide access to multiple fields of blazing star.

The Edge of Appalachia Preserve System

Reviewed By CincinnatiKid1234 - Cincinnati, United States

We hiked to 4.4 mile Buzzardroost Rock Trail and the 1.3 mile Lynx Prairie Preserve trail. The parking lots are only .5-1 mile from one another so it is very easy to visit both locations in the same day. The terrain was very well maintained and the scenery was quite pleasantly varied. Although one could make the hike in athletic shoes the trail is rocky and rooty so hiking boots would be recommended. Shout out to the Nature Conservancy and the Cincinnati Museum Center for organizing such dedicated volunteers for the trail maintenance and general maintenance for the parking areas. If you are in the West Union area and looking for outdoor activities we highly recommend visiting these locations. It was a beautiful drive from Cincinnati-we took Route 52 on way there and Route 32 on way home.

Adams Lake State Park

Reviewed By BloomChemist - Morrow, United States

Mid to late July is a wonderful time to visit Adams Lake State Park. The American lotus water lily is just beginning to bloom on the lake. Don't miss the bloom riot in the nature preserve attached to the state park. Rattlesnake master, blazing star, several types of sunflowers and other yellow composites all in full bloom. Many butterflies attracted to the blazing star. A short, easy walk to a wonderful wildflower garden.
