Playa Vega Baja

Reviewed By laur913 - Southampton

This beach is such a cool spot. So unique. Beautiful. The ocean is on one side and on the other is a rather large calm area surrounded by the large barrier rocks. The swell of water washing over the rock barrier did not happen while I was there but from the videos I've seen it is spectacular.
Sadly, the bathrooms are gross and I found the sand to be very dirty. Trash and glass all mixed right in with it. (not much different than any of the other Beaches I visited on this trip). There are two other bathroom like buildings (maybe showers?) that look abandoned. There is also a large building of some sort that I heard is only used for carnival or some kind of celebration - it is blocked off by a fence and is partially boarded up.
I visited on a Tuesday and there were lots of locals enjoying their time together. It was nice to see. Everyone seemed very happy. There were lots of teenagers playing volleyball and being active. No one seemed to be bothered by dirty sand other than me.
There were a few people renting umbrellas - they even set them up for you. If you visit be sure to bring water shoes for your own safety and do not walk around without flip flops on.
If I lived here I would try to organize a beach cleanup. I'd only go back to see the waves wash over the rock barrier.

Laguna Tortuguero

Reviewed By Jalenis - San Juan PR

This was our first time visiting this area and we were glad to find it clean and in good condition. I have heard about Laguna Tortuguero many years ago because of the caymans people once had as pets and when they grew up they released them in the area. There is a pinic area and benches to sit and relax and enjoy the view of the lagoon. Close to it in a hidden private farm is Manantial de Vega Baja or Manantial de Tortuguero. To get there you may park at the side of the road or at nearby little bar called Los Caimanes. From the road is a 3-5 min walk to the Manantial. I was there with my daughter and a friend of hers. Immediately after arriving, I was moving a little closer to take a picture when a cayman of about 4 ft long got out of the pasture and jumped into the water. We immediately got back to our car!! So beware of caymans if you go to Tortuguero!!! They are real!!!

I have been on several Dive shops around Puerto Rico, and I can say, Neptune's Divers are the best! The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. They are also very responsible and their rental gear was in excellent condition. The dive was beautiful and the instructor was always checking on us and briefed us clearly and amiably.

Parroquia Nuestra Senora Del Rosario

Reviewed By jmsg_PR - Bayamon, Puerto Rico

Located in the heart of Vega Baja. When I first saw for the first time it looked like a Cathedral, even though it's not classifed as such. But inside and outside the Church it's very beautiful. And after mass, you can go to the little kiosk and buy some delicious food. Plus, the attendence of the place is very high.
