There is little of the church building itself which excites, except for the frescoes which almost cover the entire interior. These were "discovered" (although "uncovered" may be a better word) in the 1860s (typo in an earlier review says 1960s) and sympathetically and skilfully restored. It is sobering to think that many churches in their early days were so decorated internally - this ranks as the best surviving example which I have seen. Note: There is no one "French" Santiago de Compostela route but Rabastens is on one of many recognized routes.
