Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society at the Tripp Memorial Museum

Reviewed By AndrewFromMadison - Madison, United States

This museum (officially called Tripp museum, for its location in the Tripp House), has an outstanding collection of stuffed local birds and few other animals. While lots of museums have something similar, those exhibits are usually nothing more than killing poor birds and stuffing them for no good reason, since the result is nothing like the original bird. Unlike those, this collection shines by displaying almost life-like birds - and, mind you, they are hundred or so years old and were prepared and preserved with so much care, sometimes it's hard to believe it's not some sort of mock ups - but they are real. There are other exhibits in the museum as well. This museum also stands out for its open hours - most of the local history museum shut down for winter, some as early as Labor Day - but this one is open year around.

Walked a few miles from VFW park north towards Badger, quiet and mostly flat on pristine paved surface. Not heavily used in the winter months.
