Karnala Fort

Reviewed By sanju_222323 - New Jersey

Karnala Fort lies inside what is today the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. and the place actually is called Karnala bird sanctuary.
It is a hill fort in Raigad district about 10 km from Panvel city.
Easily reachable by Auto and Bus from Panvel station. You need to pay for entering the sanctuary and a deposit if you are carrying plastic with you.
Karnala bird sanctuary- well you don’t see any birds here. but there are a few cages around and one can see few pigeons/Peacocks etc.

Karnala fort is a trek of 1-2 hour from the bottom of the hill. This Fort is at a height of approx. 1500 ft. The trek is easy with 2-3 patches of a rocky climb which can be a little cheeky due to rain as it makes the rocks very slippery. The climb takes about 1-1.5 hrs depending upon the speed of the climber.
There are 5 resting places on the pathway made by the forest department. The final climbing steps near the entrance of the fort are made safe by iron railings.

The history behind these forts can amaze you. Sivaji conquered this fort from the Portuguese in 1670.
It is good one day trek with family/friends.

I had planned my daughter's 6th birthday in the park on Sat 9th Jan'15. i had heard about the place from a friend of mine. When I visited the place I was awestruck. It is so beautiful, natural and clean. Mr. Thakker the person who is prime- facie responsible for creating it had put his heart and soul behind. Every thing is so thoughtfully done that one is left speechless. The staff both marketing/ admin are very forthcoming, friendly and are willing to go out of the way to make your trip to the park memorable. Everything was so well organised by them and thought through that it left us spellbound. I have worked with numerous event companies both because of my profession and also year on year organising my daughter's birthday - but never have I had this feeling of wow! what an amazing team. Yes, that is what the team at the Eco park is. Even their guides were good- fluent in English, knew when to push and when not, were very knowledgeable. They took care of the little ones with utmost caution and care. Food at the park was outstanding. Everybody went praises over the idly that melted in your mouth, to the herbs of rice and curry. Panipuris were yum and so was bhel. The pastas and pizzas were a pure delight. For a change kids were asking for more and finished their food. My daughter who doesn't like idly's had more than 3 in one go :). Food was non spicy and very tasty. Even adults relished it..
As far as the day was concerned - the activities planned were kid relevant.Very educative and informative. The same was given not as a lecture but play, have fun and learn approach. Kids enjoyed a lot especially feeding the cow, goats and bathing them and the rain dance. It was joy to watch them dancing on the tunes of music with so much of laughter and happiness on their face. How the full day passed we were clueless and kids wanted more. The best part is the parents who came thinking they will leave post lunch also stayed back till the end. Such was the attraction of park. and for me the host it is by far the best birthday I have celebrated for my daughter. The joy and laughter and the hunger for more from the kids is something that will be etched in my memory forever. Kudos to whole SMART team for making my daughter's birthday so memorable and truely lovely + fun and learning

Gadeshwar Dam

Reviewed By live4gourmet - Mumbai, India

07 kms from Panvel through busy roads and upcoming construction of residential townships will open up scenic, green, undulating and very peaceful vistas enroute to Gadeshwar Dam site. The ride or drive itself is enchanting. The dam is the cherry on the cake! Surrounded by highhills the dam is a picture postcard site.
But beware, the road is narrow - very narrow, many many blind curves, very hilly and ST buses ply on these. The real fear is however from the vehicles driven fast and rashly by the adolescent kids of neo rich villagers, its a accident just waiting to happen.
The good news is that there is good police patrolling along the way. The police will politely but sternly tell you that going into the stream for a bath or sitting in the water is not allowed for your own safety.
Do follow the police instructions and be safe. Enjoy an evening completely alien from this chaotic world we live in.
Its a MUST VISIT SITE.

Check out some beautiful pics from the Karjat River Side Camping. It is an amazing river, very close from Panvel, approx 50 kms only. The campsite is at a secluded place in a small village, The site has a cute farm house attached to it, which is also available for a week end outing. For people with a flare for adventure, we can arrange tents for an overnight camping alongside the flowing river. It is just amazing to hear the natural music of the river flowing all night. Sitting at the river bank and just watching the water flow, soothes your nerves and calms you down. It really helps you connect with your family and friends in a manner you never experienced before. The next day morning, the river is just perfect for a nice swim and some fun with your kids. Kids especially love the river as it is just deep enough for them to play their hearts out and shallow enough that you don't need to worry. Swim in river, sit in the river or even sleep in the flowing water. We especially recommend it to couples, as it is really romantic and you can cut off from the outside world. We can also arrange some adventure activities and take care of other arrangements including fun, entertainment, games, live music and some local delicious dinner and breakfast. Contact us anytime and if you have a minimum group of 10, we can arrange a trip just for you. We recommend Saturday and Sundays for a weekend escape. Give it a try. You may end up recommending it to all your friends. Cheers. DustyRoad Team.
