Cougar Canyon Golf Course

If you enjoy pure golf, clean air, natural wildlife and the sound of birds singing instead of the freeway noise, this is the place for you! Although it is just 2 miles from exit 108 on I-5, you’ll feel a million miles away! It is special as much for what it doesn’t have – like homes, adjoining freeways or exorbitant green fees – as for what it has - Fantastic golf and scenic views!

What a nice course. Lovely views, wow! You definitely want a power cart. It's very hilly. Very! I can't imagine walking that course. The sand traps have green sand! I've never seen anything like it. They have a small pro shop with the necessities and a snack bar. I had a hot dog which was fine. Heard mixed reviews about the breakfast. We had a family golf tournament there, about 27 golfers, and they were very accommodating.

No new slot machines this visit. There is some new on going construction inside the casino so maybe some of the newer bigger slot machines going to appear. It will be interesting to see if things change at the casino, looser slots...when the new casino in Yreka opens next month. They do offer some good Players Club rewards, discounted rooms, free slot play and dining credits.

We really enjoyed driving through Wildlife Safari in our own car, stopping whenever we wanted, and for as long as we wanted. We got to see giraffe, hippos, a rhino, and an ostrich very close -- within 5 or 10 feet. Other animals were farther away. We actually drove through twice since the tickets allow two times through. I would recommend this for a family adventure in nature.

Abacela

Abacela is a world-class, multi-award winning winery and viticulture success story. 21 years ago when founders Earl and Hilda Jones planted its first vines they had no way of knowing what the outcome would be. They were scientists with zero winemaking experience who left secure careers and trekked 2700 miles west, kids in tow, to test a hypothesis. Abacela was an experiment they hoped would answer a question that had puzzled them for years: Why doesn't America produce any fine varietal Tempranillo wine? Earl and Hilda probably weren't the first enophiles to wonder why the great grape of Spain's famous Rioja wines was mysteriously absent from American fine wine. However they were the first to approach the question with scientific rigor, form a hypothesis and then devote their lives to testing it. Abacela is the result of one ordinary family's curiosity and determination that transformed their lives, built one of Oregon's best-loved wineries and influenced winegrowing not only in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, but across America.

We stopped at this winery to give it a try and the server was Jeff and he was outstanding. He is knowledgeable, professional and has a great sense of wine and humor.
