Groznjan Hilltop village of artists, Istria, Croatia

Reviewed By Moleseyboy - London, United Kingdom

For a wander through a beautiful authentic hill-top village, we loved Groznjan. It is set atop a hill not far from Novograd and Motovun. On the day we visited, they were practising opera in a room opening out onto one of the many small squares. It was a sublime experience to stand and listen to the arias being rehearsed accompanied by a grand piano and exquisitely rendered. I could have stayed all day to listen, but our kids quickly lost interest so we moved on. They have urged me to score down the rating as there is not much of excitement for younger children, but for me it was a high spot of our time in Istria.

We came here by car (free parking) and found an unspoilt quiet little town.
It can be a bit uneven under foot but it is hundreds of years of history you are walking round. There are a few artists gallerys around and some cafes . The views from Groznjan are stunning .

Togy

Atelier "Togy" was founded in Groznjan back in the 70ties by the artist Jozef Todjeras. With its third generation of artists it has become a traditional name in ceramics, porcelain and painting. His granddaughter Diana Drcha continues working with ceramics under the family name.

Charming artsy point of Groznjan with an interesting lady artist to talk to, to find out more on history of artists' presence in that small art jewel of Istria.

Jazz is Back B.P.

This is a wonderful festival, which takes place every evening in July and in addition, it is free entry. Just grab a bite to eat and something to drink, then take a sit on the city walls and enjoy the music.
Furthermore, Grožnjan is very beautiful and charming, so I recommend that you walk through the streets of this amazing little town.

Mooi maar klein plaatsje. Wel snel doorheen gelopen en weinig te doen. Kijken en verder rijden. Mooie weggetjes om met de motor rond te rijden.
