There is a reason this spot is crawling with tourists in the morning! What a sight!! Apparently were were lucky that morning, in the hour we were there, there was almost one condor in flight all the time. Not only that, but this viewpoint over the canyon is spectacular.
We passed it on the way to Cabanaconde the evening before at sunset. Sat there with NOBODY else, not even condors. The atmosphere and silence were overwhelmingly magnificent. One of our most special moments on our two week holiday of Peru.

Our trip through the Colca Valley with a stop at Condor's Cross did not disappoint. We visited this condor viewpoint in the morning as it is a favoured time for the condors to draft in the thermal air currents. You can't miss the lookout as there are several vantage points all deep in camera shooting tourists. There were multiple condors, some resting on a perch, but most soaring through the valley, with some gliding close by. Be patient and you will eventually find a spot right on the edge of the canon for some great shots.

Well You can enjoy the Canyon view there, probably alone as the place is not really popular. 15 min by foot from the town, You need to cross old bullfights ring and old football camp. It's the place where you will start your Llahuar trekking route, plus good place to put your tent :)

A magnificient " paradise " at the bottom of the Valley.24 km of hard but wonderful trekking were you keep finding amazing corners " to take pictures and other people to share experiences.
I decided to make the route the same day,starting at Cabanaconde (3.200m) going down until the " Oasis "(2.200m) and back up,but you can spend a night at the lovely resort located at the bottom of the canyon.
It is worth the effort, make sure you bring enough water with you. Enjoy!!!

Nice place to pass while hiking the rim of the canyon, but unfortunately we were not lucky to see any Condors there.
