Sunset Point Rest

Reviewed By 792laurencer - Delray Beach, United States

I discovered the Sunset Point Rest Area wile driving from Phoenix to Sedona. What a breath of fresh air – literally! I knew I wanted to stop along the road to take in the vistas and take some pictures. I saw the sign and, not knowing what to expect, pulled off the road. I would have missed it otherwise as the area is off to the left as one is driving north. Heading northbound requires an exit to the right, left turn under the highway, and left turn to come back as the area is on the west side of the road. It appeared to be new or recently renovated with a central building for toilet facilities along with numerous areas, some partially covered (think large round gazebos), with tables and plenty of places to sit and look out on the landscape. This clever design, having multiple lookout points, ensures it is likely rarely crowded and anyone can find some solitude and a good, unobstructed view. A must for travelers on this long, lonely stretch of I-17.
