Nicopolis Museum

Nicopolis is an ancient city that was built on 31 B.C by Octavios after the batle of Aktio. If you translate it from Greek to English Nicopolis, means the city of victory. It is placed just outside the town of Preveza. It is great for someone that is interested in ancient history to visit that place. Also the museum that they recently built near the ancient city of Nicopolis is one of the most moderate and intresting musuems in Greece.

The site is where Augustus founded the city after defeating Mark Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium. The museum is located near the site and can be visited with the same ticket. The museum has a rich collection of exhibits, from the 1st century BC to the 7th century AD. Exceptional early Christian mosaics can be seen on the site.

Off the main route but well worth the effort. Start at the monastery then climb the 421 steps (yes we counted them) On top you will find the superb monument combined with views that will take your breath away (once you have got it back from climbing the steps)
