Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Candelaria

Beautiful basilica, albeit only about 80 years old, but the story and history of the statue and its interaction with the Guanches (the original indigenous people of the Canaries) is fascinating. A fine line of modern statues adorns the sea wall.

Plaza de Patrona de Canarias

Reviewed By Aziangypsy - Phuket, Thailand

A nice setting for a little history lesson of the people of the island. The statues are Kings of the Tenerife (Guanches) and placed strategically on the sea side beside the Basilica of Candelaria in the large Square of Saint Patron of the Canary Islands. The area is a great place to walk around and take photos. Aside from the Basilica and statues there are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and other shops to visit. Parking is limited around the area as it does get pretty busy. If you're looking to learn a little history of Tenerife, admire the architecture of a Basilica, and grab a bite or a coffee this is a great spot to spend a few hours, for all ages.

Rambla de los Menceyes

Reviewed By jazzer2014 - Aberdeen, United Kingdom

These 9 statues near the Basilica represent 9 kings of Tenerife. The wind was making the waves extra wild and so this added to the atmosphere. There is a lovely promenade seafront walk from here to the Catalonia Punta Del Rey hotel which takes less than 1 hour and is mostly flat. I also recommend the little weaving/lacework and pottery museum as it is a fascinating look into the history of Tenerife. There is a good tourist information centre where they speak an excellent level of English and they very helpfully gave me a historic walking map of Candelaria. I spent a very enjoyable afternoon here!
