Chateau Elan Winery

Reviewed By Room-in-my-suitcase - Ottawa, Canada

Located in Braselton, Georgia, Chateau Elan Winery & Resort, is a lavish, leisure-activity bound resort with a French facial expression that looks like it belongs on the Champs Elysees, Paris. The heart of this resort is the intoxicating, full blown Chateau Elan Winery. This facility is one of the leading wineries on the East Coast, heightened in stature by the people, near and far, who flock here for their homegrown wine. From its lush vines of Chardonnay, Merlot and Reisling the winery produces products that are in line with those of Italy, France, Napa and Spain. It offers everything from velvety and luscious Reserves to crisp Sauvignon Blanc and sweet Muscat to the rare Tahitian sparkling pineapple wine, fit for a king. I enjoyed my wine steward 'guided' behind-the-scenes look at the winery vat and production rooms while being educated on the entire wine making process from grape to glass. After the tour, was an exceptional wine tasting seminar......sip ..sip...sip. I particularly liked the 'Winemaker Wannabe' program where I learned how to blend and create a bottle of wine customized to my personal palette. I'm a neophyte when it comes to wine basics, pairing and classification so the educational aspects of the tour and seminars were just as important to me as the tasting. I learned that Chateau Muscadine Grapes produce a popular wine with a crispy taste. The Muscadine wines are made with the nutrient-packed Muscadine grapes that are native to the American Southeast. While the Muscadine grapes are harvested in Georgia, the Chateau also produces wine that are made with imported grapes from, the likes of, California for use in their sparkling wine line.Their most popular wine; however, is Dolce Rosso, an Italian import with sweet notes of raspberry and rosy flavour scents. These wines are available for wine tasting ( as I experienced), pairing while dining and purchase. I succumb to my wine drinking passion and scooped up a couple of bottles of red and white for home consumption ( and maybe some vino-body-therapy). A real highlight with my Chateau Elan Winery engagement was that I was able to get a hands-on exposure to all aspects of the wine making process as well as knowledge based information on the generalities of winery. That evening, for the first time, armed with my new found smarts, I paired up a wine with my entree (from Marc's....Chateau's signature restaurant,... without help from a sommelier)..........eureka. A great vino experience and I was proud of my pairing. So, if you want to engage in an exciting wine discovery and tasting experience at an award winning winery that is chucked in a lavish resort environment.........then try the... .......Chateau Elan Winery.........Sip..Sip..Sip......Sip Somemore.
