White Sand Dunes

Southeast Asia is usually associated with a wet, tropical environment, but, in the area of Mui Ne, Vietnam, lays a beautiful desert. white sandunes is 50km away from mui ne central ,the city of Mui Ne is four hours from Ho Chi Minh City, in the south of the a further 45 minutes, and you arrive at Bau Trang, Bau Trang, or the White Sand Dunes, is one of the only desert areas in Southeast Asia and is a beautiful expanse of dunes and sand. There are no camels here; instead, shepherds herd cows through the sandy expanse. Perhaps the most striking part of the area is a small lagoon covered in lotus flowers. Beside the lake, there is also a small pine forest that makes the wind cool, even in the hot Asian desert.

I worked out an itinerary for visiting Central and South Vietnam with the help of Esther Tran an experienced travel consultant with Far East Tours . With a lot of input from her we were able to work our a rather tightly scheduled itinerary covering Ho Chi Minh, Mui Ne, Dalat, Nha Trang, Danang, Hoi An , Hue and finally back to Mui Ne. After arrival at Ho Chi Minh we left the next morning for a three hour drive to Mui Ne which is a very quiet and serene beach resort in SE Vietnam where we spent the day on the beach in preparation for a very early morning tour starting at 5am to the White sand dunes to catch the sunrise. The sand dunes were really an awersome sight and something you would never expect to find in a lush tropical country like Vietnam but in fact the dunes were there and very grand giving you visions of the sahara desert . From the foot of the dunes we changed from a jeep to sand buggies up to the top of the dunes and after sunrise which was a grand sight we moved to the red sand dunes and the fairy streem followed by a visit to the fishing village. The next destination was Dalat in the Central highlands where the scene was totall different with cool and dry weather and a very European feel to the city where we spent two nights visiting the sights and attractions and then moved on to Nha Trang with the beach spawning for as far as the eye could see . We visited some attractions and had a mud bath which was a speciality of the city Following on we took a flight to Danang and was driven to Hoi An, an ancient city which was very serene and peaceful and stayed at the Ancient House Resort a very cosy and small resort but with very friendly and sociable staff and a very cosy feel . From Hoi An we drove back to Danang in transit to Hue the Ancient Capital and a hub of culture and history . Finally from Hue we flew back to Ho Chi Minh and joined a Mekong Delta tour before ending our very hectic but rewarding tour of part of Vietnam. All this was made possible only with the hard work and dedication of Esther from Far East who took pains to get all hotels and tours set up despite being the most busy season for travel in Vietnam being the Tet New Year and also the Chinese New Year and an influx of Chinese and SE Asian tourists . Despite the fact that it was her holiday and that of the company she was following up on the tour progress daily from her home and made sure that I was informed in advance of the following day's schedule , the tour guide's contact and timing so that we had a hassle free vacation thanks to her hard work. I would feel that Far East Tour is a reliable and dependable tour operator in Vietnam and would recommend them to any of my friends or associates who plan to visit Vietnam or for that matter other parts of IndoChina . Likewise if I should plan another trip for the area they would be my first choice
