Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum

This museum documents the fascinating and tragic history of the Donner Party's journey to the west coast.

First, avoid the $10 parking lot charge by parking along the street if you can. The museum is well worth a stop, as it gives a good overview of what the emigrants faced on their trip west. There is a 26-minute film, and there are well maintained walking trails.

This is a very easy hike and has lots of pretty views. Dog friendly and kid friendly. Watch out for soggy parts on the trail when snow is melting.

Van Sickle Bi-State Park

Reviewed By karls640 - Dallas, United States

Van Sickle is easy to get to and features some beautiful hiking. The entrance is behind the Marriott Vacation Club so you can walk to it from anywhere in town. There's a nice hike up to some quaint falls that will provide breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area. And there's a longer loop hike you can do if want to log more time on the side of the mountain.
