I was thrilled to visit the cathedral because my great grandfather, a carpenter, by the name of Karel Brendl made the doors for the front of the church. His carpenter shop and home were possibly a little more than 1 mile away. He made a replica of the old doors in early 1900's - 1903? as I understand. Are there any records that would substantiate this? It was told to my father by his first cousin, and again to me, by the cousin's daughter. The timing makes sense. I visited three times and the doors were never unlocked. I believe scaffolding was still up all three times. The last time I visited, it was also locked, so I could not get in, but in back there is a small stone building with steps leading inside and I went in and a young woman was tending. I bought a book in English about the cathedral, so I could see the photos. I don't know if I will ever get back, but I can envision from photos what the inside is like. It is a magnificent cathedral. Thank God it is being saved. I visited twice when the communists were in power and again in probably 2012. I'm 82. I have to put a time for my visit in, but it doesn't go back that far.
