Kalutara (Sinhalese: කළුතර, Tamil: களுத்துறை) or Kalutota is a major city in Kalutara District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is also the administrative capital of Kalutara District. It is located approximately 40 km (25 mi) south of the capital Colombo. The area is well known to produce the Mangosteens, a fruit introduced from Malaysia in 19th century.

One of the most recognized places in Kalutara specifically among buddhists. Situated either side of the Colombo Galle main road. Has a scenic view adding to it’s religious importance. One of the rare places where you find a ‘chithya’ inside another and you can walk inside it

Amazing place to visit . Could not imagine how much money and effort would have gone in to building such a magnificent castle , long years ago .. very interesting story behind the castle though the end is very sad .
