Perak Museum

A great place to stay inside in a hot afternoon. The entry fee is RM5.00. There are a lot of interesting exhibits. Worth spending an afternoon there. But sometimes there are a lot of kids running around from the school visit.

This small old workshop for coffee Browing is nice and interesting. The only spot I enjoyed to visit is this boring city. But the coffee is local though low quality. I didn't buy some. Just bought some biscuits haha

Kota Ngah Ibrahim

Reviewed By Nik_N_Hasan - Malaysia, null

Kota Ngah Ibrahim (Ngah Ibrahim's fort) is also known as Matang Museum. We were unaware of this place until we found it on the net. The location is a bit away from any other interesting historical places in Perak but it was not difficult to find. Situated in Matang about 40-min drive from Ipoh, this site is well taken care of. Ngah Ibrahim was an aristrocat and a wealthy man who played an important role in tin mining management in Matang back in 1870s. He built his mansion in the centre of the fort. In the old days, there was a big river next to his fort but the river has become a small stream over the years. The museum keeps old artifacts related to the mining activities and other historical events in Matang and Taiping including the Japanese occupation in the districts and the history of two Chinese migrant kongsi, Ghee Hin and Hai San. According to the keeper, this museum is a continuation story from Pasir Salak Historical Complex - which we think the fort has much more to offer as compared to the one in Pasir Salak. Another interesting fact about the area is that mine ore was found by an elephant named Larut where the place got its name from. The keeper is well versed about the history of the fort and he believes much more can be offered if an archeological efforts can be put forward. Despite its location and few visitations received, this fort gave us a pleasant surprise with its history narration, well-kept artifacts and a dedicated keeper. Free entry.
