This 4-day private tour is not only a multi-day tour, but a chance to understand human evolution. The orangutan is the great ape in Asia who only lives in Sumatra and Borneo. Orang means people and Utan means hutan or forest “people of the forest”- we share 97% DNA with Orangutans. You will visit 3 Orangutan feeding stations: Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui and Camp Lekey. You may see another exotic animal like Proboscis monkey-Bekantan the endemic primate in Borneo. Silvered Langur, Red-leaf Monkey or Pig-tailed Monkey are exotic primates difficult to see. You may see different kinds of birds, crocodiles in the river banks, plants and blossoms. This is a wildlife experience like no other. Dessy and Arif organised a wonderful 3 day experience for us in Tanjung Puting park. Everything from the airport pickup to our departure the day after out boat trip finished was taken care of for us! The klotok was beautifully refurbished and extremely comfortable - sunbeds, bean bags and even hot water from a tank (rather than river water) are available on board. Food is delicious and we probably had enough to feed twice as many people! Knowing that only 1 feeding station was open, Arif and Dessy customised our tour to include longer day treks, a canoe trip and more time cruising through the river, increasing our chances of seeing wild orangutan and other animals. It was the small touches that made the trip extra special - cold towels were waiting for us after every walk/trek, overnight sleeping spots were carefully chosen to ensure we would wake up in the most beautiful places and Arif's limitless enthusiasm was contagious, especially on our night walk ???? On arriving back to Pangkalan Bun, Arif arranged a morning city tour for our last day and Dessy ensured we were able to take our rapid tests at the hotel without any hassle. Overall, it was a wonderful trip and we felt very lucky to experience the park without throngs of tourists.

This trip was the adventure of a lifetime for me, my daughter and her boyfriend. We were one of the last excursions before the park closed due to COVID. Following are words from my daughter's journal: "Indonesia is sometimes referred to as 'the lungs of the earth.' Living on a boat on the Sekonyer River, enveloped in rainforest and observing orangutans for 4 days, I now know this to be true. We explored the Tanjung Puting National Park, we went on night canoe expeditions looking for crocodiles, we watched orangutans, gibbons, long-tailed macaques, proboscis monkeys, and silvered langurs in their natural habitats. We saw stork-billed king fishers perch on the mangroves. We saw storm's storks fly across the sky (there are only 500 left on the planet). We went on night walks through the jungle and saw every nocturnial Bornean insect you could imagine. We visited Camp Leakey, the oldest orangutan research center in the world, named after Dr. Louis Leakey: paleontologist who mentored both Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey. I was living out my 12-year-old dream of being a National Geographic photo journalist in one of the most biodiverse locations in the world. This was the most raw, symbiotic experiences of my life and I'm just so grateful for it all." ~ Jessica Thank-you to Arif; our river guide (and Biologist). Imagine: sleeping on the top floor of the boat, on mattresses with mosquito nets, sounds of the jungle all around where ever the boat ended up anchored at night.....heaven.
