Informatiecentrum De Polen van Driel

Reviewed By SundarRam54 - Hyderabad, India

I went all the way from Hyderabad,India to visit Driel, in September 2019 on occasion of 75th Anniversary of op market garden. The idea was to relive the experiences of my ww2 hero, Gen Sosobowski and his Polish Airborne troopers. I realised in this museum the kind of misery heaped Upon these great warriors, who were so anxious to take on the Germans but were frustrated ,being stuck on Southern bank of Rhine. To add insult to injury they were denied war time honours despite the selfless efforts. It was obvious even the Dutch did not resist the British efforts to blame the Poles for their own shortcomings. I was moved to tears to see these details in the memorial. I was bit disappointed that in Driel village there were no directions to reach the camp site or the ferry site. I could not gauge where the airborne Poles landed amidst the incessant fire of German guns. There was no indication about location where British Airborne troops crossed the river during “ operation Berlin” withdrawal.

Arnhem War Museum

Reviewed By Rocketsatx - San Antonio, United States

A large collection of uniforms, insignias, helmets, caps, ammunition, food items, equipment and weapons from the German and Allied armies that fought in the Arnhem area. A somewhat small vehicle collection. Many of the items are deteriorated from time and weather since they were buried for a time, sometimes a little long time, before being located after the war. A number of staged scenes have been created with mannequins and appropriate equipment and uniforms. This is not the typical government museum; more like a bunch of collectors showing off artifacts, and putting quite a bit of effort into presentation. We were glad we went.

Airborne at the bridge

Reviewed By SundarRam54 - Hyderabad, India

This museum is close to Arnhem road bridge. It is a single room museum which summarises the entire Op Market Garden effort. The place also serves as an information centre for tourists. The view of river from this glass building is nice. This is THE place if you are short on time yet want a feel of the battle.
