Welcoming happy staff. The biggest variety of Sushi I've ever seen in New Zealand. Very clean and tidy restaurant. Can get very busy and one taste of the food and you know exactly why. A real credit to Taupo. Highly recommended and we'll without doubt be returning here next time we pass through.

My 10 year old daughter and I came to Taupo for cross country racing. We felt like having sushi for lunch afterwards. We went to 5 different sushi bars in Taupo centre and settled for Tokyo Sushi. We chose Tokyo Sushi for the plenty of choice, fresh salmon and tuna, and most importantly the teriyaki eel sushi, my favorite. Actually, my 10 year old pick this place because she found her favorites, fresh salmon and tuna avocado sushi. We thought the window bench is a pretty nice touch too, looking over the street and people watching is very interesting. We certainly didn’t forget waving at our friends when they walked pass :-) we recommend this place if you are looking for an authentic sushi place in Taupo.

My husband picked up sushi for our dinner from here last night. We love sushi and have a regular and favourite place we get our sushi from in our home town so felt a bit unsure if we would enjoy something different. But enjoy it we did. It was all lovely and fresh and delicious and it was great that you could select your own pieces (there was a great range to chose from) rather than being confined to pre-made up packs. Big thumbs up from us and would definitely go here again.

Dirty tables was the least of our worries. We ordered sushi but it came out late and was the wrong order - it looked terrible and was hacked into odd sized pieces with not enough Nori to cover rice . Miso soup came out after the main rice dish. Would not recommend dining in - slow service and under staffed. Takeaway seems a better bet.Dear Georgina O,Sorry for the late reply. I received your complain about your dinning experience. Firstly I would like to express our most sincere apology. Please let me explain a little bit about this issue. The sushi you ordered is half teriyaki chicken roll, and it showed in our ordering system without carrot inside. Half roll has different making methods with a whole roll. We were trying to make the half roll big as you can get full so we put extra rice on both side of the sushi roll. I am terribly sorry if this made you feel bad.Secondly, one staff left after Christmas time without a prior notice so we were waiter shortage during new year. I am really sorry about this. We tried our best to prepare food for our valued customer with our heart as soon as we received the order. We are extremely sorry that the waiting time is too long for you. Again, we are terribly sorry for letting you down, please accept our sincere apology. Thank you very much!
