It is situated in the western central part of Bhutan and the surrounding valley is one of Bhutan's dzongkhags, the Thimphu District. The ancient capital city of Punakha was replaced by Thimphu when it was established as capital in 1955, and in 1961 Thimphu was declared as the capital of the Kingdom of Bhutan by His Majesty the 3rd Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

Our tour operator took our group out for dinner to this restaurant. This is a fusion cuisine restaurant, and we all enjoyed the great service and delicious food. As the vegetarians, we loved momos, veggie balls Manchurian souse, jeera rice, salad, pasta. Our friends enjoyed non-veg food and local beer.Again, all food was so delicious! Plan to eat here while you are in Thimpu.

The brand new DusitD2 hotelâs restaurant - offering Italian, Bhutanese, Indian and last but not least Thai cuisine, Soi 8 - is great news. I had and Indian starter and a Thai main course, and all was good, particularly the Green Curry with checken and two types of aubergines was excellent! Very original Thai taste. Of course the place is a bit expensive as Thimphu goes, but 7$ for a really good Thai curry is still value for money. In addition waiters were very professional and super friendly, and the decor was modern, relaxed and nice. rated it 5 as I find it to be one of the best in Thimphu, albeit this is based on only one visit.

We were family of five and all wanted to eat different so we selected this place which offers pizza,sandwich, burger etc. Even coffee is good. View from from outside restaurant is amazing. This is just located about a super mart store. Price is ok. Taste was good and eating experience was nice.

We came here for lunch after nearly two weeks of rice, potatoes and cauliflower. I guess we didn't have high expectations but it was surprisingly delicious. The base was particularly good.We ordered chicken, tuna and chilli chicken. All were really nice.The coffees (lattes) were reasonable. Fresh beans, just a bit burnt.The service was great considering we thought there was just one guy busily making the pizzas for our small group plus another huge table of about 15.

We normally try local foods while touring. However, my teenage son wanted to try the Pizza as the restaurant was just beside Shantideva Hotel where we were staying. So we decided to try. We tried the Utpal Special Pizza, just substituting beef with pork sausages. It was excellent. We all liked it. Those serving are also helpful and gentle. The pizza had ample amount of cheese and loads of various veg and non-veg toppings without any extra cost and a free Thumsup (can opt for coke too). We all liked it very much. The restaurant also serves some Bhutanese, Tibetan and Indian dishes. Compared to Bhutan, the price is very reasonable for the large size
