Cabildo de Montevideo

The Cabildo Historic Museum aims to position itself as an innovative space that dynamizes the interaction between the educational, cultural and artistic areas of the city of Montevideo, establishing among its objectives to present innovative museography, propose dialogical spaces and design curatorial proposals, generating knowledge about the historical narratives that build our identity. The activities designed by the Museum, have the objective of porpose a visit where through the intellect and the emotion, curiosity and critical judgment are favored, generating a rich and enduring experience for those who participate in it. Trying to translate the speech in praxis, these lines of action are developed: -to maintain a polity of preventive conservation of the collection, taking into account the urgencies andneeds of the pieces that make it up and the requirements of the museographic proposal. -design strategies and actions that favor emotional responses in visitors.

Built in 1804, this building has a lot of history to tell. Inside you can see paintings and maps depicting real life in Montevideo back in the 1800's. It's interesting so see how much it has changed. Entrance is free of charge . Enjoy!!
