They serve really good food. My favorite would be ayam bago which is fried chicken dressed with butter and soy sauce with chunks of caramelized onion, the chicken has nice texture, cripsy crusted with succulent meat and the taste of the sauce is just sensational. You can't find this dish anywhere else and if you're into prawns they do serve this dish in prawn instead of chicken. I love their bistik babi which is pork mince patty served with fried potatoes, vegetable and dressed with tomato based sauce, it is so good. They do have another specialty which is commonly served around chinese lunar new year which is kim ci bak, a humongous grilled pork skewer served with sweet and sour sauce, you wont find it anywhere else.

This restaurant was inside Hotel Puri Asri, a huge hotel with many facilities which suitable from young children to adult. We had the opportunity to try the food when we booked a room including breakfast. The buffet selection was quite complete which taste pretty good. The cool breeze and the surrounding scenery made the breakfast special, we could see the mountain and Progo river. We have paid about 8 visits to Indonesia - Java and Bali. We have always found it difficult to seek out vegetarian restaurants so that we could eat non-meat and fish meals. In Magelang we stayed at the very hospitable Hotel Puri Astri, had details of the Montong Vegan Cafe but it was not easy to track down by public transport and on foot - but we managed to. It was closed - Chinese New Year! After visiting Boboduru the following day we stopped off at Metro Square to eat at the Montong. It was excellent, as good as any vegetarian restaurant we have visited world-wide. It is better than most. The extensive vegetarian menu, with many Indonesian dishes, is illustrated and the delightful lady who served us knew enough English to give us some guidance. The food was most enjoyable; we had three dishes, each a meal in itself, and it cost just under 3 US dollars. It was superb. It was raining the following day, we used the illustrated menu and had three dishes delivered to our hotel (this was acceptable to the management). It took less than an hour and, once again, it was a high quality meal and cost four and a half dollars. For quality and service this restaurant is remarkable.

Our family group of five adults ate well here for Rp192,000. It's typical of the old-fashioned Chinese restaurants, with the dining area open to the street behind a small screen and with widely-spaced tables and a very high ceiling. It seems popular with local Chinese, and did a few take-aways while we were there.Pork is on the menu, but they were out of it on the night we visited. The fu yung hai for Rp 30,000, pak lay for Rp 20,000 and chicken (ayam ngoyang?) for Rp 27,500 are good value, but the tauge ikan asin (bean shoots with salty fish) at Rp17,500 was a bit too salty for our taste.
