We first visited this location in 2017. Returned in 2020 with my brother who is visiting us from sunny Sri Lanka. Walhalla is a great place to visit with lots of history. In short this is one of the townships which got electricity at the same time as Melbourne. But then it was the ghost town which got electricity as the last place in the same region. You would Wonder what does that means. Please visit and experience what happened.

Walhalla Tramline Walkway

The best view of Walhalla, you must do it. If you don't want to climb the steps, just park at the Long Tunnel Extended Mine (where the tours are) and walk onto it from there - it's flat, and that way you don't need to do the steps at all. Having said that, I have bad knees but I walked the steps near the rotunda at 6am to watch the new day dawn over Walhalla....there was no sunset due to the fog but it was just magical as there was no-one up yet, just the birds! We walked up near the rotunda, walked along to the viewpoint above where the museum/post office is and you can walk down those steps. Bring your camera! (or phone!)

Walhalla Museum and Corner Store Post Office

Reviewed By DiannesReviews - Melbourne, Australia

This is the Old Walhalla Post Office Museum - this post seems to mix up both museums, the other one at the corner store was closed when we went, so this is my review of the Old Walhalla Post Office Museum. It was absolutely fascinating as the last post master who lived and worked here kept it as it was, so it has become a legitimate preserved time capsule and step back in time. It's only a "donation" to get in . I highly recommend you take the time to wander through, and the lady at the front was SO friendly and helpful

Walhalla Cemetery

Walhalla's cemetery is on a very steep hill which makes it very unusual. It was very sad to see how young most of the 1300 "inhabitants" were when they died. Keep an eye open for the "cursed" grave.
