Kettle Pond Visitor Center

Today was a really nice day where I wanted to just walk a bit and relax. We were able to walk the nice paths and get to view the ocean from the high point. We were able to see different tree's and flora and it is not a hard walk in any way. We saw some new birds and the view from the top was really nice this time of year. It is better now as the leaves are not on the tree's and so you can see much further. Just a nice place to walk and relax.ok to bring your dog if on a leash.

East Beach

Reviewed By rockfender - Somerville, United States

We arrived at just before 3pm on a cloudy Saturday in July and was able to park fine. $14 for out of state visitors, paid cash. There was a sign farther up the road saying the lot was full, but we took a chance figuring that other people had left and, sure enough, there were spaces available. I think the beach is above average for the area. The beach was wide, clean, and long, with enough room to have plenty of space between groups. The water was refreshing and pretty choppy, which is the way I like it; more fun than the calm CT beaches farther west on the Sound. There is no housing or commercial development so only dunes were behind us, making for a very relaxing atmosphere. No amenities beyond some composting toilets and port-a-potties in the parking lot. We'd definitely come back!

Charlestown Town Beach

Reviewed By ExRIGuy - Ashburn, United States

This beach is clean and beautiful with great waves and is not a ton of walking to get to from the parking like Scarborough is and some others. Nice vendor selling frozen lemonade and hot dogs. Lots of families and not many teens etc. Life guards right there. But it is popular and not a large beach so unless you do want to walk a ways it can get cramped.

Fantastic Umbrella Factory

Converted barns which now house shops of local craftspeople.

Visiting the Fantastic Umbrella Factory is more than a shopping experience. It is like stepping back in time when life was basic, unhurried and more in tune with nature than nowadays. The property is lush with trees, flowers, a pond, scattered sitting areas to watch roaming chickens and a pen with emu. Many of the items on sale are reminiscent of the 60’s such as tied dyed shirts, incense sticks, and candies no longer sold in department stores today. The shops range from a general store with inexpensive novelties to a shop with items from local artisans. While in one of the shops today I purchased a pair of reasonably priced summer pantaloons (I have seen similar ones for double the price in other shops in my town). Although there was a small restaurant on the premises, I saved visiting it for another time when I will bring friends with me. I would highly recommend the Umbrella Factory for a totally relaxed strolling, shopping experience.

Burlingame State Park

Reviewed By gretcheng802 - West Suffield, United States

We have camped in Burlingame when our children were little...back in the 90’s. My husband and I have just retired and bought a new trailer. This was our first trip with the new trailer done with my college roommate. We had a great time, even with the bumps. We hope to hit the road in earnest. Burlingame was a great place to start the process. Highly recommended.
