It is the most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, which is the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The city's population ranks ninth in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. The city's prominence arose from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, and its position along numerous railroad lines. The bulk of the city is in Dallas County, of which it is the county seat; however, sections of the city are located in Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties. According to the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 1,197,816. The United States Census Bureau's estimate for the city's population increased to 1,317,929 as of July 1, 2016.

Hickory Hut

The Hickory Hut has been family owned and operated since 1965. The pride of three generations goes into everything we do. Nothing fancy here, just good food at a fair price. "No phone. No sign. Open at eleven. Closed at nine."

Nice little hometown BBQ place. Simple food done right. Ask for the sauce on the side. Meat was a touch dry but not bad. Simple menu. Enjoyed it and will be eating there again next time we are in town.

Ribs. Pork. Chicken. Brisket. Hell, even sausage. All BBQ has the same three basic ingredients: smoke, meat and time. What makes it different is the amount, consideration and attention to each part of that recipe. That, and some really great bbq sauce, to

I was initially conflicted about posting this but felt I would be doing the owner a disservice if I didnt do so. For starters, the smoked pulled pork and the smoked chicken was very very very dry and cold. The chicken tasted like it sat all day, possibly days and was extremely hard to chew. They brought my me a fresh plate of pulled pork that didn't taste much better. Hard to describe but the meat sort of dissolved in your mouth as you chewed it. The chicken strips and fries for my kids appeared to be fresh and just cooked. We asked the waitress about drink specials offered. She told us she would find out and be right back but didn't arrive back until the food came. The rum runner my I ordered had FRUIT FLIES in it! We counted a total of 3. The manager came over to apologize and offered to remove the drink which was obvious and offered to make another drink. Needless to say we politely passed. I won't even bother to talk about the smoke sausage my husband ordered. We have lived in Dallas/Ackworth area for 3 years and this is by far the worst eating experience we have ever had. You would think the manager would go above and beyond with discounting our food due to bugs being in our drink. We've dined at Salt and Pepper, Los Magueys, Rodney's, etc. I will do as much as possible to support local businesses. However this eating experience was unacceptable and we will never be back.

Happy Hawg Barbeque

Any local BBQ place is 1,000 times better than any national fast food place... having reminded you of this, Happy Hawg is a fine place with good people offering a fair price for their food. The thing is, the foo, while good is just that good. It's not awesome. My advice, if you are in the area and like local BBQ places go and enjoy. However, I don't recommend you drive a great distance if, like me, you wiull drive a long way for BBQ.
