Reviews on Middle Eastern food in Danbury, Connecticut, United States. The strangers on Alfred Hitchcock's most famous train began their journey at Danbury, Connecticut's main station, along with thousands of other travelers over time. Now converted into the Danbury Railway Museum, the station and yards are open to visitors, with a collection of historic railroad cars and equipment. Just a few miles outside of the city's pretty historic center is Bear Mountain Reservation, a quiet forest parkland with hiking trails overlooking the calm waters of Candlewood Lake.

We got takeout from Kibberia while staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites next door it. We had the beef kabob rice platter and it was very good. Especially liked the garlic sauce which came with the platter. We also had an order of chicken soup which was different and tasty.

Sesame Seed

We have been coming to this delightful restaurant since at least the 90’s, maybe even before? It’s always exceptional. Fresh and tasty food with good service at low prices in an ecclectic decor that’s interesting to look around at while dining. We’ve celebrated graduations and birthdays here over the years. The restaurant is located inside a house with dining tables on multiple floors. Our fav is the hummus with warm pita bread slices. Simply the best we’ve EVER had...in the world. We went for lunch yesterday as a party of 10 with some of our fam from NJ. They thoroughly enjoyed everything! One of our fam members does not eat meat and he was happy with all the options plus his meal. The gryo is to-die-for, the salmon was fabulous, the falafel was excellent, the lamb was delicious, the portobella mushroom sandwich was wonderful, and the kids were delighted to have french fries & chicken! All the food was served to our party in a very timely manner and there were quite a few other diners in the restaurant at the time. The bill was ridiculously small for the amount of food we had...$10/person for our party of 10. (Please don’t tell them! But if you tried to get a similar meal in NYC, you’d pay at least twice the amount.)If you enjoy yummy, fresh, and healthy food with good service in a restaurant that has character and history for really good prices, then the Sesame Seed will be an exceptional dining experience. You will not be disappointed! :)

Hanna's Mideastern Restaurant

A good friend recommended Hanna's Mideastern Restaurant and Market. I sampled some of the dishes offered in the market and found them to be interesting and delicious so I decided to try a meal in the restaurant. My waitress, Ondina, was very well versed in the menu selections and helped me decide what to order based on flavors and ingredients. With Ondina's help I chose a platter that featured Baked Kibbe, Stuffed Yellow Squash and stuffed grape leaves. While I waited for my dinner to be prepared, I enjoyed a salad of mixed greens, tomato, and cucumber with an herb, lemon and red wine vinegar dressing. Crispy and flavorful. The Kibbe was tasty, as was the Yellow Squash. I must admit that the Squash was my favorite part of the platter. The grape leaves were lemony and tender. Also on the plate was a rice combination with what I think were slivered almonds. My dessert was served warm, a medley of cheeses baked together, a sort of cheesecake, topped with toasted breadcrumbs and served in a pool of syrup that Ondina described as a sugar syrup laced with orange flower water. This dessert was called kanafe. Delicate and savory, rather than simply sweet as some desserts can be. I sipped a glass of white Zinfandel throughout the meal and dessert. The portions were very large and the cost reasonable. Delightful ethnic music was playing softly in the background which added to the experience for me, one of new and enticing flavors. When I see my wonderful friend again, I hope we can share a meal at Hanna's.
