Based on reviews we made the trek out to this restaurant. I’m so glad we did! My favourite place on Don Det to eat. Big portions of really good food. We had the massaman curry and also the chicken with garlic, peppers and vegetables- really tasty. And the setting is so peaceful and relaxing right on the river. There are buffalos around and it just has a great feel. Definitely come here while on Don Det. You won’t regret it!

From what I understand, the owners are operating a dorm for 18 Lao students here and giving some of them a work opportunity, and that’s great. However, there wasn’t much evidence of thorough training, and almost no advertised services were consistently available. Want to rent a motorbike? Don’t mind the sign here, you’ve gotta go to a nearby shop. Want a bus ticket? Don’t mind the sign, you have to go to a travel agent. Want to eat food some time after breakfast (only available 6-930 or so)? Don’t mind the entire Japanese menu, it’s only available for random short periods of time in the day not mentioned anywhere in the place, and don’t even think you can eat dinner there!Unfortunately, the kids working there just weren’t able to help with anything meaningful that a traveler might need help with. Might be better if this place didn’t masquerade as a hotel and just focused entirely on being a charity.
