Find out what European restaurants to try in Port Moresby. Port Moresby (/ˌpɔːrt ˈmɔːrzbi/; Tok Pisin: Pot Mosbi), also referred to as Pom City or simply Moresby, is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea and the largest city in the South Pacific outside of Australia and New Zealand. It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the south-western coast of the Papuan Peninsula of the island of New Guinea. The city emerged as a trade centre in the second half of the 19th century. During World War II it was a prime objective for conquest by the Imperial Japanese forces during 1942–43 as a staging point and air base to cut off Australia from Southeast Asia and the Americas.

Bacchus

We were staying at the Airport hotel for a week due to business. We totally enjoyed dining at Bacchus most evenings as we preferred this restaurant to the poolside Vue Restaurant which offered mostly casual buffet style . The steaks were always cooked to perfection & the service outstanding. The ambience was moody , classy & upmarket. We enjoyed listening to the local pianist who was particularly good . Overall - steaks & desserts were yummy. The service efficient, friendly & helpful. Ambience tops for Port Moresby.

We dined at Rapala restaurant located in the Crowne Plaza Hotel whilst staying in Port Moresby for business. We were actually staying at the Airways Hotel but wanted to try something different & we were not disappointed. Although the decor is slightly dated we found the food to be excellent & the service outstanding. We were highly impressed with all our dishes especially the steak .

A good surprise in a pretty decrepit city. A complete menu with dishes from "all horizons." Some local specialties would have been welcome, but I guess it's not the purpose of the place. Excellent friendly and interactive-with-the-customer service. Medium/high prices.
