- Location: beautiful view, modern restaurant- Quite disappointing that for a saterday lunch 4 dishes weren't available (it is not so hard to buy chickpeas or an eggplant...)- we did not get to taste the bottle of wine- although we were the first table that service we only received the bread later than the other tables- the carpaccio of swordfish wasn't a carpaacio as it were thick pieces of fish meat- I only received my grilled vegetables after I already finished my main course of red fish

So often restaurants with great natural ambience do not match it with the quality of the food. Well this restaurant is different. It is on Calamoresca Beach in Piombino. It faces due west over the beach and the sight of the sunset over the Capraia Island was truly wonderful. The restaurant has a wide range of seafood dishes. We found the waiter to be helpful and knowledgable about the menu and as there was a slight language difficulty on our part he brought out a tray with oysters, prawns and the sea bream in their raw state. The sample display was clearly very fresh. We had oysters (Bloody Mary) which were freshly shucked and delicious. Another of us had marinated salmon (salmone affumicato) which was fresh and beautifully presented. One of us had a seafood pasta (tagliatelle spignola Capp e Pinole) which was shared by all of us and was excellent. This was followed by sea bream (filetto Di orata) which again was fresh and delicious. One of us had swordfish, which in our experience can sometimes be a bit dense. This meal of swordfish ( spada al Pepe verde) was tender and delicious. One of our party went so far as to say that her meal was the best seafood meal she could recall. A local Vermentino (â¬22) was the perfect accompanying wine for the meal which he promptly arranged. The price was slightly under â¬40 per head (including the wine) which we all thought was very reasonable taking into account the quality of the meal. The only slight drawback is that it is quite a long walk down to the beach and the thought of a long steep uphill walk after such a delicious meal had us worried until the waiter informed us there was no problem in getting a taxi to take us back to our accommodation a short distance awayWe only have one more night in Piombino and are very tempted to return to try the rest of the menu.We can really recommend this restaurant.

Excellent dinner, fish was super-fresh, we tried everything from appetizers, to pasta, grilled fish and dessert (save room for whiskey affogato...). Lovely view of the Baratti gulf in an airy, comfortable space. Do not expect fancy decor, it is in line with the rustic, laid back surroundings, and it incorporates a wall from the foundation of a historic building.

Perhaps it was the shorts and walking boots but I never been made to feel unwelcome in Italy before. We were refused a table outside being told they were reserved which clearly was not the case for all the tables. We were given the tourist menu despite speaking Italian. The pasta for lunch was good but the meal was expensive with cover charge and water added. Perhaps it's better for dinner when one is dressed up. There is very little choice in Baratti which is effectively a simple beach resort with virtually no facilities.
