Cafe 56

Very new restaurant. Only opened for about one month

I have eaten here numerous times since reviewing it, and thought it was good enough to bring to your attention again. I had a simple omelet filled with an herbed soft cheese, served with a fresh chopped salad of mesclun, cherry tomatoes, carrots, radishes and scallion topped with my choice of dressing. The omelet was soft, delicate, not overcooked, with a runny delicious filling. I finished with a piece of Washington Inn apple cake - a large wedge which I had no trouble polishing off.If there's a single word which best describes the food at this restaurant it's FRESH. Everything is made from scratch daily, including the house-made potato chips. The restaurant is very vegetarian friendly, and offers a good selection of daily seasonal specials. Sabrina, the chef/owner will probably visit your table to make sure you're satisfied. Service is very good. While it provides breakfast and lunch during the week, once a month there is a (BYOB) dinner featuring the cuisine of some other culture. This is really special - and if you're vegetarian, let Sabrina know and you won't be disappointed in their offering. You will have to call ahead for reservations, as it's usually sold out. There are a couple of ways to gauge the quality of a restaurant. If I asked you to pick the top five restaurants in Middletown you'd almost certainly include this one. If I had to pick one restaurant of those five for my last meal it would be this one. To slice it another way, if I had to eat at only one restaurant in Middletown, it would still be this one.

I work in an office nearby and this little restaurant is one of our favorites for lunch. Sandwiches, salads, quiche and other specials are all delicious and the plate presentations are very nice. Clean place, excellent service and all homemade food. They also have a dessert table - usually a few different cakes to choose from and they're all delicious too. The walls are filled with original artwork that is available for purchase. Lots of ladies dining here at lunchtime. Cute little tables and chairs - a big assortment of teas. Definitely give it a try for lunch:)

For not such a big town, Middletown sure has a lot of coffee shops! The good news is Perkatory is a great new coffee shop in Middletown that you should definitely check out. Staff were super friendly, huge space with plenty room to sit and relax enjoy your coffee, and the latte they served up to me was very nicely presented. My son enjoyed his ice latte as well, so all in all I would give Perkatory very high marks for it's coffee. Baked goods on the other hand, not-so-much. I saw another reviewer complained about the pastry being stale, my scone was just absurdly dry and sort of flavorless. I went 4 stars because of this because for me a true coffee shop experience should involve a reliable, tasty sweet treat if I'm in the mood. In closing, great coffee, time for a new bakery:O)

This was our first visit to this bakery. It is full of lots of different kinds of baked goods- cakes, cookies, pastries. They also serve gelato, coffee, espresso drinks, tea. We shared a cup of gelato and we each had hot tea. In addition we both had a chocolate cocoa meringue cookie. It was delicious. They have several tables to sit down at. The staff is very friendly too.
