High-ish expectations coming here in a small group, with the restaurant having such a strong local reputation. One or two dishes matched that - such as the Duck main course and the Cheese plate; others were very average - a bit like cooking by numbers, Iâm afraid. This was particularly prevalent in the starters: for example, the venison croquettes were of poor texture and tasteless, while the rabbit starter didnât give any impression of having been near a rabbit - nice sauces/dressings but very little spirit at the heart of these dishes. Stayed at attached Premier Inn and after long drive needed quick bite. Ordered Chicken coujoun "Caesar" but didn't expect croutons from Roman Empire era. They were like bullets! Dressing was bland. Thankfully I'd ordered side of sweet potato fries which although on cold side were tasty.Carpets really need a deep clean! Staff were very attentive and pleasant just let down but blandness of everything else.
