Rendezvous Brasserie is welcoming, friendly, efficient and - rare for a restaurant these days - defiantly run for the convenience of its customers rather than robotically conforming to corporate dictats. It is a gem of a place in Westerham's main square, catering for visitors to the historic town as well as those passing through the Kent and Surrey borders which it straddles. And, when we were there, a good crowd of locals, which is always a good sign in an area where there are probably thirty-something eateries to choose from.We were offered the choice of three menus: a quick meal one, the all-day brasserie one and an a la carte. We mixed and matched from the latter two. I had a delicious onion soup topped with emmenthal cheese, followed by an excellent fillet steak with mushrooms, chips and spinach. Mrs mickchickuk uk chose a crab dish followed by a salmon crepe, pronouncing both delicious. The portions are huge, so we were too full for dessert, but it was all washed down with a very refreshing Provence rose. The service was discreet and nicely timed so that we felt neither neglected or rushed. The atmosphere in Rendezvous is buzzing in the main section, but a bit subdued in the secondary room (where we sat) and this area could do with livening up. But this is very much the sort of place where you can imagine people will return to time and again: certainly the variety of dishes listed in the brasserie section of the menu will ensure nobody gets bored with the food. A word of praise, too, for the very obliging and hard working staff.

Cote is certainly one of the more reliable restaurant chains based on my experiences to date and the Sevenoaks branch provided further proof.We had a cosy corner for 4 and although one suspects it could become noisy (bare floors, no curtains etc) our lunchtime chat was not disrupted. Service was quick and fairly efficient (waitress overlooked extra sides of spinach and tomato salad) which allowed adequate time to comb the menu.My wife and the other lady opted for the Fish Parmentier (£13.25) a delicious mix of cod, haddock, prawn and salmon topped with mashed potato and gruyere cheese and the men shared the Cote de Boeuf (£18,95) which was a 22oz char grilled ribeye sliced off the bone and cooked perfectly medium rare and served with Béarnaise sauce. The meat was tender and had a good flavour so represented excellent value for money.I would certainly return and may do later this week!

Well, what can I say great French cuisine it takes me back years with excellent flavours and great sauces. Whether you select the £19 lunch menu or the main menu you will not be disappointed. Service from my last visit has improved immensely from previous visits to crown this restaurant as the very best in the area.
