Cask & Kiln Kitchen

What was once the undisputed best bar and restaurant in the Deerfield Valley has nose dived in quality and service while maintaining NYC pricing. Even with an 8 pm reservation and a restaurant 80% empty we were offered the worst deuce by cold window. When asking for a banquet, we were given a run around. I assured our waitress we would wait in the upstairs bar until they could sort out the problem. There we enjoyed a unique and tasty Negroni served by a delightful bartender Alex. When miraculously a banquet became available we ordered the spatchcock style chicken for 2 which had been a menu mainstay and a treat. No more. The cold chicken was fatty, chewy and devoid of flavor. The steamed kale was undercooked and the waitress inattentive. As the Valley is turning around from the Hermitage debacle, Cask and Kiln should have been the flagship. Sadly we must find a replacement.

As guests of the Four Columns Inn you would expect excellent service right? This restaurant was so disappointing. Nothing is more upsetting than seeing guests that arrive well after you being served before you. Interminable wait for entree to arrive simply not acceptable. And an entree that is lukewarm is the ultimate insult to a discerning diner. Not worth it regardless of the quality if it can’t be served in a timely manner.Dear Forrest - you have our sincere apologies for a disappointing meal experience with us. Columbus weekend and the days surrounding it are the busiest time of the year for us and we, of course, try our best to keep things moving along in a timely manner. We will say though that it is not always fair to judge timing based on the table next to you as there are so many variables in terms of what items they ordered vs items you ordered and cooking temperatures etc. etc. that it is hard to comment directly on that fact. we apologize once again and hope that if you are travelling this way again we hope you will give us a second chance to provide you with a better experience.
